“The Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo, January 15, 2018.

The 2017-2018 NBA season is beginning to wind down and that means award talks are getting louder and louder as the days go by. Right now it’s pretty much a race between three superstars: LeBron James, James Harden, and “The Greek Freak” Giannis Antetokounmpo. All three of these players have had absolutely stellar seasons and the award could be argued for any of them pretty easily.

For Lebron, a four time MVP already, it’s now his 15th season. Yes, you read that right — 15th, and yet he’s still doing amazing and is still in MVP talks. Some would even consider this one of his best seasons of his career, which is pretty unheard of considering the amount of time he’s been in the league. As of right now he’s averaging 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists per game which for LeBron were all pretty accustomed to and for him that’s almost just average. But that’s not all. He has 13 triple doubles this season which is the most in one season for his career, and averaged a triple double for the whole month of February. He set a new career high for assists this year with 19 in ONE game. He also had 57 points in a game this year which is his second best total in a game in his career. Wait, did I mention this is his 15th season?

James Harden this year has been something special. After being runner-up for the award for the past two years, I think he finally said enough is enough and is going all out for the award this year. He’s averaging 31 points, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. Having his best year by far it seems like every night he’s able do whatever he wants with the opposing defense scoring 40, 50, and 60 points in individual games this year. Every night he’s torching another team making someone fall and knocking 3s down like they’re layups.

Down to Giannis, “The Greek Freak”. This year all he’s doing is showing everyone that this will be his league very, very soon. He’s averaging 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists, and what makes him so scary is that he’s only 23 years old! He’s seven feet tall who can dribble like a guard, and throw it down like a forward. The only thing he’s missing is a three-point shot and he’s already extremely hard to guard. But once he unlocks that part of his game, it will be over for the league.

As April and May rapidly approach one of these three guys are going to pull ahead and win the award, which means more exciting performances for us to watch as they battle night in and night out. All for the right of calling themselves the 2018 Most Valuable Player.
