From sequels to remakes, 2019 is certainly going to be a good year for movies. With new trailers and casting announcements coming out everyday, expectations couldn’t be higher for 2019 cinema. Here are the top ten most highly anticipated movies coming to us in 2019:

  1. Toy Story 4 – Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will reprise their iconic roles in this long awaited sequel. The movie will be 3D, and promises to be the best one yet. It seems like the movie will center around a new toy, Forky. All the old gang will appear in the movie, apart from Don Rickles (Mr. Potato Head), who passed away in 2017 before he could record any lines. Some new voices will also be heard, including Tony Hale, Jordan Peele, and Keanu Reeves. Current release date is June 21.
  2. Pet Sematary – This chilling novel is bond to inspire a truly terrifying movie. Stephen King’s novel has been adapted before, the 1989 version starring Dale Midkiff and Denise Crosby traumatized many people, even with limited visual effects, so a modern version promises to be filled with anxiety and consternation. Jason Clarke and Amy Seimetz are set to star in this film, playing Louis and Rachel Creed; and child actor Jetè Lawrence will star as their daughter Ellie. The Creed’s other child Gage will be played by three-year-old twins Hugo and Lukas Lavoie. Current release date is April 5.
  3. The Lion King– Buzz for this remake has been big since it was announced that Beyoncé would voice Nala, but she isn’t the only big star who will appear; Seth Rogen, Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, and John Oliver are among the voices that will be heard. While the film is being marketed as live action, it’s unclear how much of it will be CGI. It seems like the remake will be as similar as possible to the original. Current release date is July 19.
  4. IT: Chapter Two – The first “IT” movie was a box office hit, making $123.4 million domestically, so the sequel is sure to follow in it’s footsteps. Just like the book and 1990 miniseries the second movie will show the characters as adults, dealing with the consequences of their actions as teens. The members of the Loser Club’s older selves will be portrayed by Jessica Chastain, Bill Hader, James McAvoy, and more. Current release date is September 6.
  5. Star Wars: Episode IX – The final installment of the new Star Wars movies is still untitled, but that hasn’t stopped fans from counting down the days until its release. Adam Driver and Daisy Ridley will be back, along with Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Fisher will appear as a main character in the movie, despite her tragic death, through reshoots. Current release date is December 20.
  6. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood Quentin Tarantino’s new films is teaming with A-list stars such as Margot Robbie, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Al Pacino, Kurt Russell, Dakota Fanning, and many more. Set in Los Angeles circa 1969, an actor and his stunt double struggle to make names for themselves. With a $100 million budget, and a star studded cast, fans have high hopes for this upcoming film. Current release date is July 26.
  7. Joker – Fans of the DC universe can’t wait for details about the yet to be titled Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince himself. This new take on the Joker has caused some backlash from fans, because of the separation from the Suicide Squad universe, and the casting of Phoenix instead of Jared Leto. Fans seem to have come around though, because the hype for this movie is definitely high. Current release date is October 4.
  8. Spider Man: Far From Home – This film is set to be released after Avengers 4, and fans can’t wait to see Tom Holland back in action in the second movie in the new Spider Man franchise. Many fans also hope that the movie will provide some closure after Infinity War. Holland, Zendaya, and Marisa Tomei will all be back to reprise their roles, and Jake Gyllenhaal will play Spider Man’s new nemesis. Current release date is December 20.
  9. Frozen II – Not much is known about this new Disney sequel, but it is known that Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Johnathan Groff, and Josh Gad will all be back to voice their characters once again. Current release date is November 22.
  10. Avengers 4 – This movie is arguably the most highly anticipated film coming to us in 2019. Fans who have followed the Marvel cinematic universe for decades can hardly wait for the climax of years of films. After the unsatisfying ending of Avengers Infinity War, it seems like the concluding film couldn’t come any sooner. The cast is huge, but the top stars listed are Karen Gillan Chris Hemsworth, and Brie Larson. Current release date is April 26.
