Here at Patchogue-Medford High School we have an amazing volleyball team that doesn’t get enough recognition for what they do.

They’ve made playoffs seven years in a row

. This season they have had a record of 6-8; however, they still clinched a spot in the playoffs in the last game of the regular season. Pretty impressive! The success of this season is due to the seniors’ leadership and experience in tough situations to come out on top.

Each year they host a “Dig Pink” game across Suffolk County to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. This year the game was against Ward Melville who is the toughest team that they faced in the league, and even though they didn’t win that game, they still raised $300.00 to go towards research to find a cure for breast cancer.

All season they struggled to find a way to “terminate” when it counts and really get the job done to win; they didn’t finish with the best record, but there were high hopes for them in the playoffs. Coach Gangl says “It’s a great feeling to make playoffs. Once you set that goal to get there it feels so good once you achieve it. There is just something magical about being in the post season and being able to demonstrate how hard you have been working all season.” Their coach also professed that she is very proud of her team and their success throughout this season.

They played Bellport in the first round on Monday, October 31st and came out on top advancing to the second round to verse Lindenhurst on Wednesday, November 2nd. Unfortunately, this is where this season ended.

Throughout the season Madi Genaway broke a few school records during her senior year which happens to be her fourth and final year on the Varsity team. She has played in the most games/sets of anyone ever at PMHS and has also set the record for most volleyball playoff appearances which is 4 in 4 years. She set the record for most kills in a career at PMHS and was looking to break the record for most kills in a single season. Both kill records were previously set by Tiffany Verni in 2014 who went on to play for the New York Institute of Technology on a full scholarship for volleyball and is doing big things there as well. Best of luck to Madi Genaway with her future volleyball team in college; she will be sure to leave her mark there also.

Congratulations on a great season for all members of the Girls’ Varsity Volleyball Team. We expect to cheer you on for year number 8 in the playoffs next year.
