Patchogue Medford’s Literary Arts Club has officially launched their Fall 2016 edition of their very own magazine titled “The Fuse.”  Bailey Logan, former editor of “The Fuse” thought the name of the magazine was a good choice because it implies “the putting together of a variety of media.” This makes a great deal of sense considering that the innovative magazine is a collection of student submitted artwork and literary pieces that are all published online. Some examples of submission types include poetry, short stories, photography, drawings, and paintings.

The advisors of the Literary Arts Magazine, Mrs. Perera and Ms. Heller, hold meetings every other Tuesday in room 269. Kayla McGinnis, editor of “The Fuse” states that they usually launch two magazines per school year but their main goal is to launch a new edition every quarter. To submit a piece to the magazine, there are requirements depending on the type of piece being submitted. For example, “relatively short magazine pieces follow general guidelines of the school, and they must be approved by Dr. R,; however, there is no rule against pieces that could be considered too negative” she claims. Expressing that there are usually more sad submissions than happy ones, McGinnis also mentions that when it comes to who generally submits more, the upperclassman take the lead. She states “many have been submitting for a while, thus they’re usually more comfortable doing so.” Kayla also discusses that the club builds awareness with such methods as “asking some teachers to introduce it to their students, fliers, posters, etc.”

Many students at Patchogue Medford have a voice that they don’t use. Kayla believes that there are benefits of joining the Literary Arts Magazine, such as meeting creative people, pushing your creative self, getting some of your work out there, and of course, becoming published. Let your voice be heard. “The Fuse” may be the route for you!  If one is interested in submitting a piece, students are able to email their work to [email protected].
