Reviewing 2017: Television of the Year
It’s difficult to narrow down all of the amazing television from the past year. However, the streaming platform, Netflix, and HBO continue to be trendsetters in what makes exciting and original television. Here are some of my picks from the past year.
Riverdale– It isn’t a personal favorite but I can’t deny the love out there for this TV show. Loosely based off of the iconic character from the classic Archie comics, this series follows a small group of friends that try to uncover what happened during the tragic death of Jason Blossom, as well as balancing life while growing up. Between Cole Sprouse and football players who can sing, this show has every adolescent girl wanting more.
13 Reasons Why– everyone has a different opinion about this controversial show but you can’t deny that it had everyone talking. Based on the best-selling novel, this follows the lives of students who got a mysterious box of cassette tapes that hold the thirteen reasons why a former classmate, Katherine Langford, committed suicide. The intentions of this was to show the real side to teen depression, but whether or not they did it correctly is what became the discussion.
Big Little Lies- another show based off of a book, the dark comedy Big Little Lies is set in a sunny California in a town run by rumors and status. Three mothers’ “perfect lives” unravel to the point of murder.
