Senior Caitlin Dellecave reached 1000 asssists this week. Way to go #5!

There are many great athletes in Pat-Med. Some play football, some play soccer, but one that sticks out above most is Caitlin Dellecave. She is a multi-sport athlete playing Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Lacrosse, and she is one of the very best.

Caitlin was named a top 50 player on Long Island for volleyball, and recently she proved that she should be even higher after achieving 1000 assists for her volleyball career.

That is a feat so few athletes accomplish, considering the small window of opportunity they have in high school. It isn’t like you can play ten years and get to gradually improve. If you want a record like that in high school, you NEED to hit the ground running.

Volleyball Coach Carrie Gangl had this to say about what makes her a special athlete, “It’s her ability to work hard continuously without giving up or giving in to any situation.  She always believes that there is a way to win and will motivate her team by never giving up.  Also, she has great athleticism and court awareness to the point where she sees the court really well and can find openings in the defense to get easy points.”

Caitlin only picks up the pace in the spring season with lacrosse. Just last season she racked up 31 goals, and 14 assists. This has landed her a spot on the All-USA team. She is being compared to the absolute best of the best players in the country. Forget county or state, but in the COUNTRY. Hard work pays off and Caitlin continues to be a prime example

“I think that there are always ways to improve, seeing the speed of the game that I will have to play in college keeps me motivated.”

Over the next four years she will be playing Lacrosse on a Division I scholarship at Stony Brook University. This is something most athletes never get to experience in their lives.

D1 is where the best of the best play to see who is going to come out on top, and Caitlin will be right in the mix come next August.

It isn’t just about her game that makes her a great athlete,  it’s also her leadership. Caitlin knows how to bring her teammates up and she has a drive to succeed that is unmatched.

One of her biggest supporters is her mother. She is at all of her games cheering her on, and making sure she stays focused on not only her athletics, but her academics as well.

“What makes me the most proud of Caitlin is her work ethic and her humility. She has worked extremely hard for everything she has achieved – none of this is a fluke – and yet she remains humble. Yes, she is a great athlete. But more importantly, she is a great person.” said mom, Stephanie Dellecave.

Caitlin has shown she is a do it all athlete. Her work ethic on the field, as well as the court is unmatched. She is a team player, and a great leader, and that cannot be stressed enough.

We’re anticipating what she is going to do at the next level and we expect big things.
