The final film in the Venom trilogy has finally arrived. Following Venom (2018) and Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), Venom: The Last Dance (2024) could not have wrapped up the storyline better. Starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock, this trilogy has charmed millions of fans with its unique, witty banter between Eddie and his best buddy Venom. This film in particular truly excels in creating an equal blend of the average superhero film’s action sequences, and deep character development.
The dynamic between Eddie and his symbiotic partner touches the heart of the viewer as they fight through and battle the enemy with all odds against them. The flowing chemistry between the two offers a great mix of humor, conflict, and genuine moments of connection that add complex layers to each character as an individual, and as a whole.
As always with the Venom franchise, the visual effects and action sequences are nothing short of spectacular. Venom is brought to life in the most visceral and captivating manner. Every little transformation from Eddie to Venom, then half Eddie-half Venom, then full Eddie plus Venom’s head popping out of his shoulder, are rendered and crafted with so much detail and depth that really helps the viewer gain a connection with Venom and his jarring personality.
Besides the amazing visuals, the plot is engaging and perfectly rounds out the movie. The continuing themes of redemption and identity manage to still come off as fresh and exciting throughout the trilogy. You never feel a sense of boredom or repetition when watching this film. As a Marvel fan in general, this movie was one of the great ones that helps break out of Marvel’s “flop era”. It gives you the hope and joy of an original film from say, the Infinity Saga, in the most refreshing way.
Even as the final installment of a trilogy, Venom: The Last Dance can work as a standalone film; it’s enriching, yet easy to follow along with. You could truly jump right into it and understand what’s happening by the 20-minute mark. I recommend this film not only to superhero lovers, but also those who seek an interesting and emotional journey.
