As the 2024-2025 winter sports season comes to an end, let’s see what each team has accomplished this season.
Boys Winter Track have gone unnoticed when it comes to breaking records and striving for greatness. Junior, Evan Fraser, and seniors Ryan Lazarides, Brody Sorsen, and Jayden Stroman have worked together as a team to break the schools 4×4 relay record.
“I feel like we all shared some piece of a common goal. Due to that we all pushed each other past our limits through ups and downs. It began to show from the start I would say.” Fraser says.
“It’s been easy, it never felt like I even transferred. The guys took me in with open arms and we all bought in and now that’s starting to show” says Stroman.
Girls Winter Track have stood out this season with Mikayla Cooper breaking the schools indoor triple jump record and Sophia Yondola breaking the school indoor 3k record.
“This season has been pleasantly surprising so far and it’s satisfying to finally see my hard work pay off. However, I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish any of this without my supportive coaches and teammates.” says Yondola.
Junior Rae Ann Hess says, “I’m proud of my team, its progress this season, and the coaches and the people on the team make it possible.”
The Wrestling Team went into their first round of All County’s on January 21st, 2025, and are currently ranked number 4 in the county.
“I’ve been coached by some of the best coaches in the league and they are why we are where we are, putting in the work day in and night out,” says Junior, Hazard Perry.
When asked which senior has made the biggest impact on the team, Perry was not shy to say Senior, Mason Jacobellis. Jacobellis is currently ranked number 9 in the state.
“This season we’ve been on and off track with our goals but now we’re heading straight for the county championships,” says Jacobellis.
The Boys Basketball Team has had a successful season so far. Their big win against Central Islip showcased Domanic Pertillar with 16 points, Tristan Long with 11 points and Darius Erves and Gio Hopwood each adding 9 points with a 65-47 game.
“This season has been a lot of fun and has been an amazing season,” says Sophomore, Tristain Long.
The Girls Basketball Team has had a long and hard season, but recognized Coach Gallagher’s dedication to making the team better. Senior, Angie McGrath has been recognized by her teammate, Lilly March, about her plans for playing basketball at Farmingdale College next year.
“Even though we might not have as many wins as we hoped, we persevered and look forward to a good end to our season,” says Junior, Lilly March.
Senior Olivia Liddell says, “…we have gotten through challenges together and the bond we have is like no other. As one of the senior captains leading this team, I have seen the highs and lows, but this team is truly special! As the season comes to a close, I of course am sad but excited to see where this program goes in the next few years with amazing young talent!”
Thank you to our coaches, teams and seniors who have made this winter season for the dedication you put towards your sport!
