Moana is Disney Pixar’s latest animated film starring Auli’i Cravalho as Moana, a teenager who is heir to her family’s throne,  and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Maui, a shape-shifting demigod.  Together these two polar opposites must overcome their differences to save Moana’s tribe from darkness and despair.

The film contains all the greatness we have come to enjoy from Disney over the years, such as beautiful visuals, which is animated with an overwhelming amount of detail (to the point where the animators made every strand of hair one by one), to a critically-acclaimed soundtrack composed by  Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creative mind behind the Tony award-winning Broadway hip-hop musical Hamilton. Before this movie’s premiere, Disney released the full soundtrack to promote Moana which resulted in an enormous level of interest and promise.

Moana is yet another Disney movie that is targeted for a younger demographic yet all age groups can find enjoyment from the experience. The nostalgia factor plays a big role in an adult’s enjoyment of the movie, since it feels just like one out of Pixar’s golden age (Toy Story, Monsters Inc.). A simple plot made amazing with strong leads, detailed visuals, a very catchy and up-beat soundtrack, and the feeling of being a kid again makes Moana a masterpiece that everyone should experience. I highly recommend that everyone, regardless of age, make it a must-see this holiday season.
