When I started getting bullied in school, I was like okay, maybe there’s something I could do. I’ve always loved fashion; I could put some clothes together sometimes and I knew what worked. I just wasn’t one of them kids with the name brands. I didn’t have the Jordans on, this that and the third. I told my mom I was like “it was either you get me the clothes or I’m gonna start putting my own clothes together” and she said, “I’d like to see you try.” Girl, when I tell you I cut those khaki pants, turned them into a skirt. I wore those boots with the stockings and the uniform shirt. I thought I was that girl! Everyone said where did you get your clothes, and I was like I made them. Everybody thought you were it. Everybody was your friend. At the same time, I feel like fashion shouldn’t be off designer, or money, it should very much be about creativity and where it comes from. It’s not about the money, it’s about how you can put it together and pull it off.
