Mission Statement: 

The Red & Black, an online publication produced by students at Patchogue-Medford High School, was created to connect students with the Patchogue-Medford community. We produce content to inform people on different subjects, for people to enjoy, and to increase appreciation for what our school has to offer.

Byline Policy:

All bylined writers will be accountable for their work and its accuracy.

Comment Policy:

The Red & Black welcomes feedback from its readers. All comments are reviewed by the administrators of the site and will be approved on a case by case basis. Please note any comment that contains obscene, suggestive, vulgar, profane, threatening, disrespectful, or defamatory language will not be published and will be reported to the administration. All comments must include a verifiable email address and spam accounts will be rejected.

The views expressed in comments are solely the authors’ and do not reflect the views of The Red & Black, or the Patchogue-Medford School District.

Once submitted, comments become the property of The Red & Black.

Editorial Policy:

All editorials will be clearly identified as so.

The editorial board will determine the content. The views stated in editorials represent that of a majority of the editorial board. Signed columns or reviews represent only the opinion of the author.

Social Media Policy:

The use of user-generated content via social media will be held to the standards adopted by the Online News Association (http://journalists.org/) in its Social News gathering Ethics Code (http://toolkit.journalists.org/social-newsgathering/).

Corrections and Errors Policy:

Grammatical and factual errors will be corrected in a timely fashion as soon as they are detected. When this is done, The Red & Black will indicate that a story has been updated and why it has been.
