The annual Art and Music Night was held on the 27th of January, and was a fun opportunity for younger students to see what our school has to offer once they reach the high school chapter of their lives.
There were changes made compared to how the event was run for several years prior. Not only was a new station set in place for P.E classes, but a new rotation system for organizing the flow of the event was set in place.
Members of Tri-M lead their own groups of kids throughout the different stations, leading the way through the halls.
Visiting elementary school students rotated between three locations in our school. Students saw one of our art classrooms, where they made a piece of art of their own.
Room 150, our beautifully decorated art classroom was used to host a design station where visiting art teachers from our district’s elementary schools came to collaborate in running a fun coloring station for the little ones.
Members of our school’s chapter of the National Art Honor Society were also in attendance, making sure art teachers and students alike always had a helping hand. President of Patchogue-Medford’s chapter of the NAHS spoke about the experience this year, saying that “It was nice to be able to work with and encourage elementary school students.”
Among our visitors was Mrs. Cunningham, who previously taught photography and media arts at PMHS. It was an unexpected reunion for the current Pat-Med students who were had Mrs. Cunningham as a teacher in their freshman and sophomore years.
They also visited our band room, where our school’s talented musicians and members of Tri-M Music played a variety of instruments, then spoke about their experiences and love for the multitudes of music programs our school has to offer- such as playing string instruments in the orchestra, the variety of wind instruments or percussion instruments in the band, or singing in our choruses. The musicians’ performances were met with much applause!
In the West Gym, students had the open space to play as they pleased with hitting beachballs over the volleyball nets, small games of soccer, and other fun activities. The gym too was monitored by the gym teachers, coaches, and Tri-M students.
Thanks to the efforts of all those who participated, the new structure of this annual event went smoothly! Hopefully, new and creative changes will continue, making this event better and better each coming year.
