Do you need something to make for dessert on Christmas? I have the perfect idea for you, peppermint bark. It is my favorite holiday treat by far. To me, it just screams holidays!!!

The classic peppermint bark has layers of dark chocolate and white chocolate topped with crushed candy canes. I first got a sweet-tooth for peppermint bark when my cousin had put it with my gifts for the holidays. I was then inspired to make it  every Christmas for the past 3 years.

Surprisingly, peppermint bark is a lot easier to make than you think. You’ll only need three ingredients, dark chocolate, white chocolate, and candy canes. First, melt the dark chocolate. Once melted spread it onto a baking sheet and than let is set in the refrigerator. When harden than melt the white chocolate and spread it on top of the dark chocolate. As the final step you add in the crushed candy canes. This all makes an easy, quick, and very tasty combination.

For the past three years that I have made peppermint bark I have never experienced any problems. It is a fun tradition that I love to do. It always gets devoured up by my family on Christmas day!!!

So, if you’re looking for a personal way to add some love to your holidays, try making this quick & easy recipe. Ask a sibling, friend, or parent to help and make it extra special.

Ingredients

  • 2  (12 ounce) packages of dark chocolate
  • 2 (12 ounce) packages of white chocolate
  • 6  peppermint candy canes

Preparation

  1. Line a baking pan (12 by 18 inch) with wax paper.
  2. Melt the dark chocolate in a microwave-safe glass or ceramic bowl in 30-second intervals. Stir after each melting, for 1 to 5 minutes. Once the dark chocolate is fully melted, spread it evenly in the prepared pan. Then, chill in refrigerator.
  3. While the pan is in the refrigerator,  crush up the candy canes into a bowl. Than, melt the white chocolate in a different microwave- safe glass or ceramic bowl for 30-second intervals. Stir after each of the intervals for 1 to 5 minutes.  After the white chocolate is fully melted take out the pan from the refrigerator, immediately spread the white chocolate over the dark chocolate. While the white chocolate is still warm sprinkle the crushed candy canes on top.  Put the pan back into the refrigerator. Once it is fully set break into small pieces and serve.

Tips

  • DO NOT overheat any of the chocolate or it will scorch.
  • DO NOT put the chocolate in freezer to have it set. If you do it would  separate the layers rather than combine them.
