The Last Ride
What does the class of 2019 have to look forward to in their remaining months of high school?
As graduation is approaching for the class of 2019, there are many exciting events to end this four year adventure. Being a student at Patchogue-Medford High School has been accompanied by countless fun events, such as Raider Bowl, homecoming, prom, musicals and so much more. Here is a timeline of upcoming events for our senior class before they graduate and move on to the next chapter.
A great portion of the cast for our All School Musical “Guys and Dolls,” are seniors who will be performing at our high school for the last time on February 7th, 8th, and 9th in the high school auditorium. Guys and Dolls is a romantic comedy about the unlikely pairings in Manhattan of a gambler and a missionary as well as a showgirl and a gambling manager. The story emphasizes the obstacles one must overcome in their relationship, especially when they have a different lifestyle from their partner. Go support our talented seniors and underclassmen!
The next event for the seniors is the long-awaited Senior Fashion Show which was recently determined to be themed “Vogue.”
Senior Andrés Rendon explains “the whole idea is that you do fashion icons and have it tied into Fashion Week and fashion trends. We are influenced by RuPaul because of his strong involvement in the fashion industry as well as the song “Vogue” by Madonna.”
The senior fashion show is scheduled for March 1st and there is a $5 entry fee for participants and spectators. If you would like to participate in the fashion show, there will be a mandatory meeting on January 30th in room 216 immediately after school.
Following the fashion show, the next big event for seniors to get involved in is the annual talent show, which will take place on April 5th. There are many talented students in the class of 2019 who are eager to showcase their skills.
Senior Chelsea Goldberg is “extremely excited to sing in her last talented show.” If you would like to participate in the talent show, there will be a meeting on March 20th in room 216, followed by auditions on March 28th in the auditorium.
As the last few months of school are approaching fast, the realization that high school will soon be over will hit the seniors. The traditional plan for most of our seniors is to further their education, perhaps in different states, at a university or trade school to start their next journey.
As we all know, college is very expensive and can be stressful to determine which college is best for you both financially and academically. To provide relief from this daunting decision, there will be a Scholarship/Awards night for seniors on May 30th at the high school. Applications for these scholarships will be available later this school year.
Instead of spending their last day of high school stuck in a classroom, the seniors will enjoy the outdoors for Senior Day on June 17th. The day will be filled with food, games, hanging out with their friends, and the infamous countdown at the end of the school day.
There will be a senior slideshow in the auditorium to start off the day. If you would like to be featured in the slideshow, the class of 2019 is now accepting kindergarten class pictures as well as school related pictures from 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. You can send these pictures to the class of 2019 Instagram (@pmhs_2019)
It would be fitting to say that prom is the event that our seniors our most excited for. Prom is scheduled for June 24th but the theme has yet to be determined.
Senior Nicole telford explains, “I’m excited for the last prom I’ll ever have and to participate in all the upcoming events with my friends.”
The class of 2019 has an Instagram page (@2019_seniorprom_dresses) for all girls attending the senior prom to send in a picture of their prom dresses. If your looking to sell your prom dress or figure out where to get your dress from, the page is useful for that as well.
Soon after the exciting prom night, the seniors will have to prepare for graduation the next night, June 25th, the event that they have worked 13 years for. It is important for all of our seniors to enjoy the remaining months of high school while they can as it will all be over before they know it.
