Want to know what coming to a theater near your? R&B has the scoop!

Brittney Runs a Marathon is about, well, Brittney running a marathon. The film, directed by Paul Downs Colaizzo, follows the titular character Brittney (Jillian Bell) on her path to live a healthier life and reach her personal goal of running the New York Marathon.

This drama-comedy shows us the pieces of a woman that is broken and allows us to watch her get back together in a way that is without a doubt inspirational.

I went into this film expecting to watch a standard “rise to success”-type sporty movie, and oh boy was I wrong.

The film starts by establishing Brittney as an avid party-goer that does not care about her job or her future, going as far as to try to get a doctor to prescribe Adderall pills for her. Instead, he gives her advice on how to live a healthier lifestyle, kickstarting Brittney’s journey to lose weight and eventually run the New York Marathon.

This film was very average. There was nothing really groundbreaking in terms of film-making, but the story told was definitely one that I haven’t seen yet this year.

Brittney’s story combined with that of those around her show how a simple goal of running a marathon can mean so much for one person, and in turn mean much more for each audience member.

There isn’t much more to say, so I’m going to give this film a 6 out of 10. I’d say to check it out if you’re home on a Sunday afternoon and your parents want to watch a movie with you. Otherwise, I wouldn’t say to go out of your way to watch this one.
