A quick look at the events happening in Patchogue Medford and beyond.
Around Patchogue-Medford:
- Oregon Middle School is having a Silent Auction on Friday November 22nd. Over 200 prizes will be given out, you just have to have the winning ticket number!
- ROTC parents night is on Friday November 22nd starting at 7:00pm.
- South Ocean has their 6th grade winter concert at Saxton Middle School on December 5th beginning at 7:00pm in the auditorium.
- A five day weekend is coming up next week as school is closed November 27-29 for Thanksgiving festivities. The day before this quick break (November 26), all schools in the district will be taking part in the Go-Home Early Drill. All students will be released 15 minutes earlier than usual.
- The Annual GO Business Honor Society Toys for Tots drive is going on until December 13th. Donations can be brought to room 220, the Main Office or Guidance Office.
- The General Organization’s Annual Food Drive is happening now. Donations of non-perishable food items can be dropped off in the Guidance Office or Main Office. Some items that would be appreciated are boxed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, pasta, sauce, canned yams/pumpkin/cranberry, cereal, and packaged snacks. All food collected will serve our local community.
Local Happenings:
- The Hofstra University Jazz Ensemble is performing on Sunday, November 24 at 7:00pm at the Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center, California Avenue, South Campus. General admission is $10 and only $8 for senior citizens (age 65+).
- American Legion Post 833, Smithtown is having a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on Saturday, November 23 from 8-11 am. Raising funds for their 100th Anniversary Celebration on January 23, 2020.
- The Folk Artists of Long Island Crafts Fair is happening on November 30th from 12- 6pm. The event will be held at the Gallery at St. John 2139 Centre Ave, Bellmore.
- The Polar Plunge will be coming to Patchogue for the first time on December 7th. The event will take place at the Sandspit Marina on 116 Brightwood Street. Bring arm towels and hot cocoa if you plan on jumping in the freezing cold water!
Beyond Long Island:
- President Trump has signed a temporary spending bill to fund federal agencies, averting a possible government shutdown, according to an administration official.
- A new feature on Twitter is allowing users to hide replies to their tweets. This is to try and Improve Online Conversation.
- On July 13, runner Katie Visco set out from Darwin, the very tip of Australia’s Northern Territory, intending to cross the continent. On November 8th, she arrived in Adelaide, on the country’s southern coast which is over a 2,200 mile journey.
