There are so many things to do this Fall (from a distance) that embraces one of the best seasons of the year.

This fall is going to look a little different from most, but it can still be full of classic fall fun. The months of September, October and November can be the best months of the year because of the fun activities you could take part in, like haunted houses, apple picking, and pumpkin spice. The pandemic makes enjoying these activities difficult, but not impossible. It just requires you to think outside of the box a little. You could still have fun this fall while also being safe and considerate of others.

  • Bonfires – Making a bonfire is the perfect way to spend a cool fall evening outdoors. You could sit around the fire with your friends and family telling ghost stories or roasting marshmallows. You could even set up a projector in your backyard and watch scary moviesWhichever way you choose to enjoy the fire, it’s a great alternative to staying cooped up indoors.
  • Pick up some pumpkin spice – A lot of restaurants have been trying to get you in the fall spirit with the classic flavor of pumpkin spice since August. Places like Starbucks, Dunkin, Dairy Queen and many others offer great pumpkin spice flavored items from coffee, donuts and even ice cream, though it might be a little too cold for that. You can’t go far without seeing something pumpkin spice flavored this time of year.
  • Creating fall decorations – Decorate the inside and outside of your home with fall themed décor. Make a festive fall wreath to hang on your front door or try adding small pumpkins and flowers to your dining room table for a unique centerpiece. And as Halloween approaches, creathomemade paper ghosts to hang on your windows. And don’t forget about the classic jack-o-lantern! Going to a pumpkin patch might be more difficult this year but you could always pick a few up at your local supermarket.
  • Haunted Houses – One of the best parts of this time of year is visiting a haunted house. While many houses across the island are open during the pandemic, a fun alternative is to create your own! Turn off all your lights, play some scary music and walk through your own home while getting scared by your family members. Or for a more spooky experience, go outdoors and walk through your yard to make your own Spooky Walk.
  • Picking apples and pumpkins – A great way to enjoy the fall season is with some delicious apples and festive pumpkins. Visit the numerous amounts of apple orchards and pumpkin patches on Long Island this season to pick the perfect items for your fall treats. And don’t forget your mask! This year you may have to follow social distancing guidelines, but it will be worth it. Use what you picked to make pies, donuts, muffins, and of course carve those pumpkins!
  • Fall photoshoots – We can all agree that beach pictures are great, but fall pictures are often underrated. Once it gets a little cooler, grab a few friends and take pictures jumping into a pile of leaves! Decorate a few pumpkins and take pictures in front of your work. Or try the new ghost photoshoot trend on Tik Tok. All you need is a few friends, a white sheet and some silly glasses. Enjoy the leaves and cool weather and spice up your Instagram feed!

The fall can be the most exciting time of year, so don’t waste it! Spend time with your friends and family outdoors enjoying the weather before the winter comes and it gets too cold. Bake something, decorate a few pumpkins, and make some memories. Stay safe and enjoy the fall!

“My favorite part of fall is how pretty everything becomes,” say Julia, age 13. “I get super excited for the fall because I get to wear sweaters and go apple picking.”
