Now that all our favorite music platforms like Spotify and Apple Music dropped this years “wrapped”, let’s look at this past year’s popular music album and song releases from each month.
January
On January 12th Kid Cudi released his first album of the year, INSANO, with 21 songs. With about 22 million listeners on Spotify, 36 million people listened to this album within the first week of its release. It’s most popular song on the album being, “AT THE PARTY”, featuring Pharrell Williams and Travis Scott.
February
On February 9th, USHER released his album, COMING HOME, and the expanded edition of that album. With 20 songs on the original album and 22 songs on the expanded version, 45.82 million streams were made, and 53 thousand pure copies were sold. It’s most popular song on the album is “Good Good”, featuring 21 Savage and Summer Walker.
March
On March 8th, Ariana Grande released her album, Eternal Sunshine, along with the slightly deluxe version, and live versions of the album. With 13 songs on the original album, 17 songs on the slightly deluxe album, and 24 songs on the live version, the album was streamed 3.5 billion times, making it the second most streamed album and 68th most streamed album by a female artist on Spotify. The most popular song on the album was “yes, and?”, with 254 million streams, hitting number one on Billboard Hot 100.
April
On April 18th, Taylor Swift released her album 11th, TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, along with the TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY, on April 19th. With the original album having 16 songs and the second album having 31 songs, the album itself surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. Its most popular song being “Fortnite”, featuring Post Malone.
May
On May 17th, Billie Eilish released her album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, consisting of 10 songs. The album has 1 billion streams on Spotify alone. Her song, “BIRDS OF A FEATHER”, has a total of 1.7 million streams since its release on the album.
June
On June 7th, newer artist, Charli XCX, released her album, BRAT, making her songs like, “Apple” and “365”, become popular across social media and music platforms. The album has 15 songs, with over 1 billion streams on Spotify as of August 2024. Her most streamed song, “365”, has 100 million streams and her two songs from the album, “Apple” and “365” hit Billboard Hot 100.
July
On July 4th, Zach Bryan released his album, The Great American Bar Scene. With 19 songs on the album, including his single, “Pink Skies”, reappearing on the album, featuring Watchhouse. The album has 163.9 million streams since its release in July. Its most streamed song is, “Pink Skies”, hitting somewhere in the million streams across music platforms.
August
On August 23rd, childhood Disney Chanel star, Sabrina Carpenter, released her album, Short n’ Sweet, with a total of 12 songs. Her singles like, “Please Please Please” and “Taste” are found on the album. The album surpassed 4 billion streams on Spotify. Short n’ Sweet is Carpenter’s first NO.1 album, with her most streamed song (that isn’t a single), “Good Graces”, having 70 million streams.
September
On September 6th, Rex Orange County released his album, The Alexnder Technique, with 16 songs on the album. The day of its release, the album reached over 2 million streams on Spotify.
October
On October 28th, Tyler the Creator released his album CHROMAKOPIA, with 14 songs on the album. On its released day, it reached 85.6 million streams on Spotify, making it the biggest hip-hop debut on the platform in 2024. The most streamed song on the album is, “Noid”, with 2.481 million streams and hitting #6 on Spotify with 1.42 million streams.
November
On November 22nd, Kendrick Lamar released his album, GNX, with 12 songs on the album. The album reached over 379 million streams on demand in the first week of its release. His song, “squabble up”, reached 3.272 million streams on Spotify.
December
On December 6th, Rosé released her album, rosie, with 12 songs on the album. The album currently has 570 million streams on Spotify since its release. Currently, the most streamed song on the album is, “APT.”, featuring Bruno Mars has 523 streams on Spotify.
