The PCLI Media Awards were held on Thursday, June 4th at the Fox Hollow, Woodbury at 6:30 P.M, where Patchogue-Medford was recognized for three top honors.
PCLI stands for the Press Club of Long Island and was established in 1974. It was established as an independent press club. PCLI became a chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists in the early 1980s.
PCLI’s purpose is to promote and recognize ethical journalism practices as well as promote the development of future journalists from the ranks of high school and college students.
Patchogue-Medford was recognized in the Student Journalism category and received 2nd place for Best High School New Website, 3rd place for Best High School TV Station, and 1st place for High School Reporter of the Year-Narrative.
Season 7 episode 4 was recognized for Best High School TV Station, where it was in 3rd place!
Patchogue-Medford also won 2nd place for Best High School News Website and was recognized for the dedication of school spirit by the judges.
The judges said, “They sensed a real team effort on this site, and a dedication to school spirit.”
PCLI recognized Martina Costigliola for High School Reporter of the Year-Narrative and won 1st place for it! The judges provided their comments on Costigliola’s work.
The comment report said, “The reporter showed a great deal of diversity in subjects and used many sources on each story.”
Martina was evaluated for her articles, “Dialing Down Distractions,” and “Local Mentor To Statewide Leader.”
The comments that the judges provided really reflect the efforts of the Red and Black, as well as Raider TV.
The achievements that occurred at the PCLI Media Awards are extremely remarkable and valued here at Patchogue-Medford!
