The annual NHS Volleyball tournament is a competitive night that invites teams of students, teachers, administrators, and alumni to participate.

On March 2nd, 2023, Patchogue Medford High School held its annual volleyball tournament to fundraise for senior scholarships. Seven teams competed and over a hundred players participated in the event. The event is hosted by the National Honor Society.

Mrs. Sweda, the NHS adviser, said that this event was “a PMHS tradition that’s always a great time.” She also wanted to offer a special “thank you” to the other teachers that helped run the event this year, Ms. Gangl, Mr. Sweeney, Mr. Neuss, Mr. Monterroso, and Mr. Gonzales.

The seven teams were set up into brackets and competed head-to-head against one another. Once a team lost two rounds they were eliminated. In the end team seven, The Tigers, won.

The Tigers consisted of Anthony Pelaez, Joffre Quichimbo, Bryam Ariazaga, John Quichimbo, Marcos Ulloa, Mayely Zhicay, Amanda Apolo, and Juan Coello. The team was most excited to have their names announced the next morning.

Despite not winning, the other teams still had fun competing and playing with friends. Harry Lian and Emily Volpe both agreed with this sentiment, saying “We had a lot of fun! Everyone did really well and even though we didn’t want win we really enjoyed it.”

The whole night was a fun experience that brought a wide variety of students and people together.
