With Veteran’s Day here many students have the day off from school to do whatever they please; however, what many people forget is what this day is really about and that is to remember the veterans.

To honor those who have ever serviced in the U.S. Military and to recognize what they have sacrificed to keep citizens safe. These are a couple of things you can do on this day, or any other day of the year, to honor these men and women:

  1. Donate to the USO

The United Service Organization is a non-profit organization that supports military service members to stay connected to their family, home and country through the donations of people. If you are willing to donate money to help members of the military this may be an option for you.

  1. Send Letters to Veterans

Sending letters to veterans is a very simple and easy thing to do so if you have a couple of minutes in your day take some time to send a letter to a veteran. Many veterans have no families and letters are a good way to show your thanks.

  1. Post a Message on Social Media

In today’s world almost every teen has a social media and taking a few minutes of your time to thank a veteran for their service is effortless, easy, and goes a long way whether you use Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat spreading appreciation is always a good thing.

  1. Attend a Veterans Day Parade

Simply going to a Veteran’s Day Parade to show your support for those who served will honor the Veterans attending the parade and can make their day seeing the appreciation of others.

  1. Hang up an American Flag

If you already have an American flag this will be something effortless to do, by proudly displaying your flag you send a clear message to veterans on Veteran’s Day, and that message is that you appreciate the sacrifices they made to keep our country safe.

  1. Thank Veterans Personally

Lastly something so basic you can do on this day that requires no effort but shows a tremendous amount of respect is simply by going up to a veteran that you may see in the streets and shake their hand and thank them for everything they have done because believe it or not this alone will make their day.
