How important is health and fitness to you?

In 2016 studies have shown that 17% of children and teens are obese and 5.8% are found to be extremely obese. Studies have also shown that obesity in children is decreasing; however, obesity in teens continues to rise. There are simple measures a teen can follow to set themselves up for years of a healthy life through the benefits of exercise.

Most people are unaware of the extent of benefits from exercise. The effects on the body result in  both physical and mental perks. By simply working out for 30-45 minutes you can actually reduce stress and prevent aging because of the increased levels of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine to the brain.

The next thing you gain with exercising is strength in mental health. You can reduce symptoms of depression if you train three times a week and burn a moderate amount of calories. This has the same effect as anti-depressants. Along with that also comes the added benefit of your mood improving through the increased levels of GABA (Gamma-Amino Butyric acid) to the brain.

Another reward that comes with exercising is the increased amounts of growth factors in your brain that establish new connections which can aid in learning. Exercising can also help with boosting your self-esteem and body image through the result of seeing improvements in your health.

An additional benefit that comes with exercise is the fact that it helps boost your creativity by stimulating your hippocampus which is a part of your brain that is believed to be the center of emotion and memory.

Besides the exercise that can help improve your life in various ways, you can also eat a healthier diet which could drastically improve your life. This helps with fighting diseases, boosting your energy, and improving your longevity so that you can live a full life.

For a student, each one of these aspects could improve your daily school routine immensely — it can be by aiding depression, reducing stress, becoming a better learner, or boosting your energy for the school day. These benefits will impact areas of your life. All one needs to do is simply put some effort towards changing your habits to improve your health and it will show in your day to day life.
