Boys Varsity Soccer Team during playoffs.

On Tuesday night, the Patchogue Medford Boys Varsity Soccer team played #2 ranked Sachem East.

This was an intense game for Patchogue Medford. If they win, they make playoffs. If they tie or lose, their season ends. They are playing away at the #2 ranked team in League 1 Sachem East on Sachem’s senior night under the lights.

Before the game, head coach Tim Trava told the team that they had the ability to beat this Sachem East team, but what it really came down to was showing up and taking advantage of this opportunity they had front of them.

In the first half, Sachem East opened up the scoring with a goal by senior Mike Reggerio, putting Sachem up 1-0 at the half.

But Patchogue Medford came back. Midway through the second half, Senior Liam Connelly scored a penalty after a Sachem handball in the box, making the score 1-1

Then, with 7 minuets left to play, senior striker Steven Granados scored to put Pat Med up 2-1.

Patchogue Medford ended up winning the game 2-1 and clinched a playoff berth.

This is the second year in a row that the Patchogue Medford Boys Varsity Soccer Team has made playoffs. With last years quick first round exit due to a loss to Newfield, who would go on to win in the finals, the teams question now is just how far will they go?

Patchogue Medford will play their first playoff game on Tuesday against #1 seed Brentwood.
