Setting New Goals in Place of Old Traditions

Committing to a resolution can take place at any time of the year.
Setting+New+Goals+in+Place+of+Old+Traditions

New Year’s resolutions have been around since the 17th century and every year we have a chance to start fresh and set a resolution or a goal for ourselves.

According to Forbes Magazine, The Forbes Health/One Poll survey found that “the average resolution lasts just 3.74 months. Only 8% of respondents tend to stick with their goals for one month, while 22% last two months, 22% last three months and 13% last four months.”

So, have you set a goal for 2024? Have you given up already? Do we really need a specific reset date to set positive goals?

Perhaps rather than the expected tradition of “New Year, New Me”; maybe we should think deeper as to what will exactly improve us as people and the world we live in.

Here are some things to strive for in 2024:

Pick One Issue in The World and Take Small Steps to Solve it

This can be pretty much anything that means something to you. It is important to pick something that holds value to you and has an effect on your life. Therefore, you will be more motivated about the issue to do something about it. Although it is evident that it is challenging as one person to solve a big issue going on in the world, you can still take small steps and promote the concept to other people and collectively make a difference.

Some concepts can be:

  • Promoting taking care of the earth
  • Helping the homeless
  • Speaking up for a group of people who aren’t being treated right

Tactics that can be used:

  • Making posters
  • Promoting things on social media
  • Starting a club or a group that does things to help the cause
  • Speaking to individuals in the community that work close with the issue
  • Taking steps, yourself to fi the issue (some may include picking up trash or donating to a soup kitchen)

Write a List of Things You Would Like to Gain More Knowledge on Along with Taking Steps to Educate Yourself on the Topics

There are many things to learn about the world around us and if you think you know everything, you don’t. Not everything is taught in school and some things require some research outside of the classroom. Doing research on topics of interest to you will make you a well-rounded person. The more knowledge we have the better everyone can understand the world. The goal is to have researched all your topics by the end of the year.

Some concepts can be:

  • A mental or physical health issue someone you’re close to may be experiencing
  • A celebrity that has had an interesting life
  • Different kinds of jobs
  • Topics involving science and history that you didn’t have a chance to study in school

Tactics that can be used:

  • Looking online at reliable sources and taking notes
  • Carrying around a notebook to organize your topics and your research
  • Getting involved in a club or activity that has to do with the topic
  • Talking to professionals who work with the topic

Attend an Activity or Event You Wouldn’t Normally Attend

Some people may notice there is something they always wanted to do but never got to do due to various circumstances such as not having the courage to do so or simply not having the time. This is the time to explore these options and look beyond your comfort zone. Think of things you never got to explore. Doing this could result in developing a new interest or simply having a new experience.

Some concepts can be:

  • An art show
  • A Broadway play
  • Going to the city
  • Traveling to a different country

Tactics that can be used:

  • Putting money aside for it
  • Creating a list of new experiences you want to have to stay organized
  • Taking pictures during the event/experience and creating a photo album
  • Asking questions to people while there to gain more knowledge of the experience
  • Writing a review of it on social media when done

Be sure to take part in at least one of these “resolution” ideas for 2024 as it will help you grow as a person, gain more knowledge, and become a part of something important for this year.
