Patchogue-Medford Baseball team, 2017 season.

The smell of fresh green grass is in the air. The sound of metal clashing with that red and white ball is heard from a mile away. Music is blasting getting everyone ready for the challenge ahead. It’s chilly one day, and warm another; but, no one seems to care because their playing the game they love. All of these things can only mean one thing, it’s Pat-Med baseball season.

This time of the year is highly anticipated for months before it arrives. When one goes to a Pat-Med baseball game, the amount of passion and love for the game is easily observed in both the coaches and the players. The season started against the Sachem East Flaming Arrows. One could sense the urgency and team’s desire to win just being there as a fan. They put their heart and souls into the games and it is so inspiring to watch. Although they may not have won that series, they have just won their second series against the William Floyd Colonials. So, it is clearly evident that great things are to be expected from this team.
Every year recently, this team has made it to playoffs and there is no doubt they will follow that pattern again this year. PMHS’s starting pitcher, Josh Rovner and short stop, Brad Malm, were both ranked in the top 100 players on the Island. Clearly, our team has some star players. Although those two are ranked top 100, our team consists of other very significant players such as Dan Codispoti, the catcher; Andrew Ciufo, second baseman; Frankie Papanikolatos, the first baseman; and outfielders Vito Morabito and Erik Matz. Overall, this team is very talented all together.
The Raiders have many more games you can attend but, one special game approaching is the Hall of Fame veterans’ game against Brentwood on April 15th at 3:00pm. This team is truly inspiring and extremely talented; so, come on out and watch this team shine playing the sport they love.
