The new gym floor honoring LT. Murphy.

As the majority of our school is aware, two years ago our building was named in honor of Patchogue-Medford graduate and hero Navy (Seal) LT. Michael P. Murphy. Since the renaming of the campus, there have been many ceremonies to acknowledge both Murphy and his family.

On December 8th, 2016, a basketball scrimmage was held in order to unveil our high school’s new gym floor to honor LT. Murphy with his name beautifully displayed across the sideline. I was given the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at this event and was lucky enough to even meet the Murphy family. The bleachers were filled with students and faculty enjoying the game and the unveiling. The evening turned out to be a successful way to honor LT. Murphy and his memory.

In addition to the excitement and stellar performances by both the cheerleading and dance teams, the Patchogue-Medford varsity basketball team were victorious. However, regardless of the score of the scrimmage, the ceremony was a perfect way to celebrate the district’s efforts to keep LT. Murphy’s memory alive. It was truly an honor to witness the Murphy family and Patchogue-Medford community come together as the ribbon was cut above the floor forever honoring a true hero.
