What’s you 17? Pat-Med student initiative to encourage fellow classmates to make 17 deliberate acts of kindness in honor of the 17 lives lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fl.

In honor of the seventeen victims who died in the Marjory Stoneman Douglas shooting, the G.O. is encouraging all students to participate in the “What’s Your 17” Movement. The purpose is to deliberately commit seventeen acts of kindness to spread love and compassion to those around you.

Here are seventeen simple, yet meaningful, ways to spread kindness:

1. Put your phone away while in the company of others.

2. Send a positive text message to five different people.

3. Post inspirational sticky notes around your neighborhood, office, school, etc.

4. Compliment the first three people you talk to today.

5. Write a positive comment on someone’s social media post.

6. Run an errand for a family member who is busy.

7. Email a teacher who made a difference in your life.

8. Offer to drive a classmate home if they don’t have a ride.

9. When everyone around you is gossiping about someone, be the one to say something nice.

10. When you’re throwing something away, pick up any litter around you and put that in the trash too.

11. Try to make sure every person in a group conversation feels included.

12. Talk to someone at school whom you haven’t talked to before.

13. Hold the door for the people behind you.

14. Help someone pick up their books after dropping them.

15. Sit with someone sitting alone at lunch, or invite them to your table.

16. Return lost items to the “Lost and Found”.

17. Say “Hi” to strangers.

Well, PatMed community, the rest is up to you. What other acts of kindness can you suggest for the movement? We would love to hear your feedback and suggestions in the comment section below. Let’s make this a school-wide effort.
